Who we are
Sprout is a dating app for plant-based and vegan people, operated by an individual based in Pennsylvania, USA. You must be 18 or older to use Sprout. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@sproutvegandating.com.
Information we collect
Account and identity: your name, email address, and (if you sign in with Apple or Google) the identifier your sign-in provider gives us; your birthdate and gender. Profile content: photos, your plant-based/dietary identity, written prompt answers, and your matching preferences. Location: with your permission, your device location, used to find nearby people and restaurants. Activity: your swipes, matches, and date proposals. Messages: the messages you exchange with your matches. Safety: reports you submit and feedback you send us. Device and technical data: device model, operating system, app version, a push notification token, IP address, and basic log data. Diagnostics: crash reports.
How we use your information
We use your information to create your account and profile, show your profile to other users as part of matching, find people and vegan or vegan-friendly restaurants near you, deliver your messages, send notifications, keep Sprout safe (moderation, reviewing reports, and enforcing our Terms), fix bugs and improve the app, and comply with the law.
Messages and safety
We do not routinely read your private messages. We may use automated tools to detect abuse, spam, illegal content, or safety risks, and our team may review messages when you report a conversation, when needed to enforce our Terms, or when required by law. Messages are otherwise visible only to you and your match.
How we share your information
We share data only with service providers that help us run Sprout, each receiving only what it needs: Supabase (database, authentication, and photo storage); Google Maps Platform / Places (your location is sent to find nearby restaurants); Expo (app infrastructure and push notification delivery); Sentry (crash diagnostics, configured not to attach personal identifiers); Apple (Sign in with Apple and app distribution); and Google (Sign in with Google, if you choose to use it). Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policies. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-app advertising or tracking.
Google Maps and Places
Restaurant search and restaurant details in Sprout use Google Maps Platform. By using these features you acknowledge that the app includes Google Maps content and that your use is subject to the Google Maps/Google Terms of Service (https://policies.google.com/terms) and the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). To return nearby results, Google may receive information such as search terms, IP address, and approximate latitude/longitude coordinates.
Location
Location is requested only with your permission and is used to show nearby people and nearby restaurants. Other users never see your exact coordinates; we display only rounded, approximate distances. You can turn off location access at any time in your device Settings, though some features will stop working without it.
Sensitive information and consent
Some information you provide may be considered sensitive, including your sexual orientation and dating preferences and your precise location. We collect and use this information solely to operate the matching and discovery features of the app. By providing it and using these features, you explicitly consent to this use. You may withdraw consent at any time by removing the information or deleting your account; withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out.
Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account we remove your profile, photos, prompts, matches, messages, and swipes. Some information may be kept longer where necessary: safety reports and records of banned users (to keep Sprout safe), data we are required to retain by law, and copies that persist in routine backups for a limited period before being overwritten. Crash logs are retained for a limited time, and feedback may be kept in anonymized form.
Your choices and rights
You can review and edit your profile in the app, and delete your account at any time from Profile then Delete Account, which permanently removes your personal data as described above. You can revoke location, notification, and photo permissions in your device Settings. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or object to the processing of your personal information. California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including to know, delete, and correct personal information and to limit the use of sensitive personal information; we do not sell or share personal information. Users in the EU/UK have rights under the GDPR, including to withdraw consent and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Children
Sprout is only for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to let you know. The date at the top reflects the latest update, and your continued use of Sprout means you accept the updated policy.
